Champagne Pol Roger has been producing exceptional Champagne for over 170 years. The house remains small, family-owned and fiercely independent with an enviable reputation for quality.
We invite you to discover the history, present and future plans for Pol Roger as Hubert de Billy, fifth-generation family member to own and run Champagne Pol Roger, is joined in conversation by The Wine Society’s Champagne buyer Sarah Knowles MW and general manager of Pol Roger UK James Simpson MW.
Hubert, James and Sarah will discuss what makes Pol Roger unique in the world of Champagne and examine the styles and characteristics of the different cuvées they produce, including a sneak peek at the soon-to-be-launched 2009 vintage of the house’s top wine, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill.
Whilst no specific wine is required to participate, we encourage you to use this event as an opportunity to open a bottle of Pol Roger Champagne and to sit back and enjoy learning more about this famous house. Following the conversation between the panellists, the proverbial floor will be opened to questions from Wine Society members.
The Wine Society and Champagne Pol Roger have a longstanding affinity. The Wine Society was founded in 1874, the very same year that Sir Winston Churchill was born, who would go on to become a devoted Pol Roger drinker and friend of the family. As we start to think about celebrations for our 150th anniversary in 2024, so too will Pol Roger, who will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Churchill’s birth and 175 years since the house itself was founded in 1849.
