We are delighted to bring you a week of events celebrating winemakers whose wines are part of our 2020 Wine Champions offer: the winners of our huge annual blind tasting to find the best of our best for drinking now. Each guest will share the history of their wineries, discuss their own personal journeys and give insight into the range of wines they produce. You will then have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Finally at the end of each event, the producers will lead a tasting of the wine our buyers crowned a 2020 Wine Champion.
Few will realise that Undurraga actually began as far back as 1879 when Francisca Undurraga Vicuña began bringing European grape cuttings back to his native Chile. He brought pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon from France and gewürztraminer and riesling from Germany, transporting the cuttings in lead capsules to stop them wilting in the extreme heat.
Undurraga's vineyard area now stands at 1,800ha and like many Chilean producers, they attempt to practise environmentally friendly viticulture, and interfere with nature as little as possible.
We're joined by chief winemaker and one of Chile's brightest young stars, Rafael Urrejola, for a presentation on what it's like producing wine for one of the most esteemed wineries in Chile, the challenges and the joys.
