2018 VINTAGE - MEMBER REVIEWS
"I really like this wine. It is reliable, nicely fruited and as fresh as a daisy!
It is not expensive, so I do not expect a Meursault, or a Leflaive Settiles or Oncle for this money!!
I buy it in cases of halves, for mid-week suppers.
Given that the 2019 vintage is imminent, I imagine with much lower yields, the successor will be slightly richer and the Society will do well to retain the same price point. "
Soorat Singh Esq (03-Sep-2020)
"The label claims 'delicacy', but it was too delicate for me and 'purity of fruit' seems like estate agent speak for 'no great depth of flavour'. In fact I don't think I would have recognised this as Burgundy if I'd tasted it blind - it just doesn't have many of those feel-good features that warm the cockles of your heart and make you smile when you recognise an old friend. I bought it to accompany salmon at a family dinner but (apologies if this sends the MWs into a spin) ended up cooking salmon with the rest of it later in the week. OK, at less than £10 a bottle for white Burgundy, it's hardly expensive, but you can get a much better return for your money elsewhere in the Society's lists. "
Mr Ian R Sanderson (02-Sep-2020)
"Excellent as always. So reliable, like a good old friend
"
Mrs Jill McEvoy (02-Sep-2020)
"I think this is a very good wine and although chardonnay is not my favourite white grape every now and then it is worth trying particularly with rich food. Will buy again. Also a very good price at £10"
Mr Richard Barwick (01-Sep-2020)
"Ok enough - if you like that style then this is decent value. Maybe I don;t like the style - I struggled with the Society's Chablis too. Pleasant wine though."
Dr Jeremy Platt (29-Aug-2020)
Dr Thomas Hunt (29-Aug-2020)
"This is a delicious, fruity, unoaked Chardonnay that's perfect for a summer's evening. Well worth the money."
Mr Timothy Almond (09-Aug-2020)
"Have drunk several bottles on this. Always consistent and I cannot believe I can get a decent, drinkable White Burgundy at this price. Has become one of my go to everyday whites."
Mr Iain Robertson (09-Aug-2020)
"Lovely fresh quaffable Burgandy. Terrific value. Highly recommended. "
Mr Richard J Morse (09-Jul-2020)
Mr Nathan Bolt (05-Jul-2020)
"Lovely burgundy, smooth and easy to drink, fresh and nice and dry ,good value for the price"
Kevin A Mager Esq (01-Jul-2020)
"A very 'clean' delicious wine. I have paid a great deal more for a lot less from Macon. "
Mr Lawrence Clephane (29-Jun-2020)
"Great value white Burgundy."
Mr Ben Carpenter (27-Jun-2020)
"Solid and unfussy - a good buy at £9.95. Paired very nicely with lemon sole. Would certainly order again as an everyday rack filler. "
Mr Neil Goody (22-Jun-2020)
"Nice easy drinker. Subtle aroma of peach. Flavours of stone fruit and a long finish with a toffee note. "
Mr Graham Gibson (21-Jun-2020)
"Classy wine. Not outstanding but good value for a white Burgundy. Possibly lacking depth of flavour but nevertheless good to drink."
N E Warran-Smith Esq (18-Jun-2020)
Mr Simon Hobbs (11-Jun-2020)
"This is a dry, arguably very dry, white wine which is entirely acceptable and is said to be highly popular with WS clients. I can recommend it though in my view it is a little lacking in character. It probably goes best with fish or other light dishes, rather than being drunk by itself. But overall I defer to the Press critics and members who praise it strongly. On almost any view it is good value."
Mr Neil Butter (07-Jun-2020)
"Average quality, maybe it's good value for burgundy, but in case you want good wine in this style and want to spend less than I would advice to go to new worlds instead."
Mr Serghei Golban (29-Apr-2020)
"This is our 'house white' of choice. Amazing Macon for the price, hence 5 stars. Universal praise from guests, including Californian natives surrounded by Chardonnay! Had a case over Christmas; has the weight to cut through creamy sauces but the poise to complement fish and salads. Great with food or as an aperitif; makes a heavenly Kir"
Mr Alastair Black (22-Jan-2020)
"Good value for an enjoyable, simple white burgundy. "
Mr Benjamin Leaver (27-Dec-2019)
"Does what hit says on the tin and that’s not a bad thing. Good value white burgundy. Nicely rounded, good balance. A wine that doesn’t let you down. "
Mr Tom Rodger (26-Dec-2019)
"Difficult to find a white burgundy at this price point that is more enjoyable. "
Mr Michael E Welsh (03-Dec-2019)
"incredible value and as good as any Chablis"
Mr William Potts (26-Oct-2019)
"Very pleasant white burgundy, dry and flavourful with a pleasing sharpness. As a recent convert to the society’s white wines this was a hit. "
Mr David Welland (08-Aug-2019)
"I used to drinks a fair amount of this and always thought it great value. This year's edition just doesn't hit the mark. Weakish but not unpleasant exotic fruit nose. Mineral and not bad taste but just lacked any sort of depth or length. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with this wine it is just no where near the value of some of the Loire valley chardonnays available from the wine society which show much greater VFM at the 7 quid mark. Buy it, try it just don't expect a huge amount back, which for 10 quid is probably what you would expect anyway."
Mr William Clephane (27-Jul-2019)
"Excellent introduction to white Burgundy with a nice mineralogy and a crispness not usually found at this price point."
Mr David Jones-Percival (19-Jul-2019)

"This column has to
include The Society's White Burgundy 2018. Their Mâcon-Villages shows the
unmistakeable mix of fulsome white fruits and stony aromas on the bouquet. In
the mouth, there is a touch of honeyed notes to the apricot and peachy fruit
which get their lemon citrus mojo through the mid-palate. This is lively and
luxurious in equal measure and will happily pair with poultry and white meats -
like a nice roast pork dish. Classic Mâcon. - Neil Cammies"

"Not usually a fan of Chardonnay but this is very pleasant. Lovely citrus flavour. Must get some more."
Mr Ray Mount (04-Sep-2018)
"Quite rich (almost in an un-oaked chardonnay way) and melon fruity (only after reading others' reviews did I detect apple), with a touch of sourness at the finish. Quite complex and interesting though maybe a bit expensive for what it is. "
Dr Andy Rawlins (30-Aug-2018)

Dr Anthony J Lalor (26-Jun-2018)
"An honest wine, quite rich offset with apple. Far better than another supermarket's own brand White Burgundy which is about the same price. Slips down very easily and light enough for warm weather afternoons in the garden."

Mr Mark Waddington (09-Feb-2018)
Mr Alex Downham (02-Feb-2018)
"A very enjoyable wine, both my wine and myself enjoyed this, great value at under £10 for a white Burgundy - tempted to try other white Burgundies at around this price point but I can see why this is a member's favourite."
Mr David Mitchell (29-Jan-2018)
"A little disappointing that this wine didn't have the 'Wow' factor I was expecting from a Society Wine. We had this at a Burns Night supper with the fish course and it tasted rather bland and underwhelming. I have enjoyed many white Burgundies in the past with more flavour at a similar price and I wouldn't order this one again. A pleasant wine but nothing special."
Mr Chris Pring (26-Jan-2018)
"Consistently delightful, year after year."
Mr Peter Nelson (22-Jan-2018)
"A good basic French burgundy, good fruit, dry, very gluggable ."

"Does what it says on the label. A lovely crisp and refreshing Burgundy.
Would buy again."
Mr Martin Wingate (27-Dec-2017)
"Nice, easy drinking, typical white burgundy but lacking a little in mineral flavours or complexity. Perhaps serving it a little warmer would have helped. Pleasant but not earth shattering. I found myself looking for complexity in the flavour that wasn't there. I feel a little guilty writing the review as this wine has no flaws it's just predictable. Those wishing to avoid even a slight flavour of oak would doubtless rate this higher."
Mr Russell Craig (26-Dec-2017)
"
This has the enjoyable progressions of taste that other reviewers have identified. We loved it."
Mr Stephen Mackinder (13-Dec-2017)
"Just as good as the 2015. Nice and crisp. Plenty of fruit. Currently my favourite chardonnay."

"the best white burgundy I've had in a long time. Maconnaise meets Chablis would meet it best. If unoaked fresh chardonnay with a touch of sun is your thing. then imho this is the best you'll get for the money,"
Mr James Brown (30-Jul-2017)
"We had our remaining bottle last week and it was all and more that a value White Burgundy should be. Quite dry, very good fruit, a slightly floral nose and a tad of chalk. I think that the lesson to be learnt here (when a terrific vintage occurs) was/is to purchase a shedfull and put them away until at least 3 years post vintage. I would consume a bucketful of the 2014 in 2017, sadly mine is all gone!! If you have some left, you are either lucky, forgetful or really know your wine!!?
Chapeau & Respect!!"
Soorat Singh Esq (12-Jul-2017)
"I am ambivalent about both red and white Burgundy, considering them to be both over-priced and over-rated, particularly the pinot. But this has challenged my position on the white. Lovey structure, rich, clean but intense with a hint of butter. And a screw cap to boot - convenience an' all! Under a tenner? Pretty good going. I will be buying more."
Mr John Carr (28-Jun-2017)
"Fresh, slightly zingy, clean and almost unobtrusive but an enjoyable package. Unmistakably white Burgundy at a sensible price."
Mr Bruce Collinson (31-May-2017)
"To find a white burgundy under £10 that is so pleasant is hard. This one is spot on! Good minerality and acidity, fresh fruit with a lovely nose."
Mr Rafael Goncalves (02-May-2017)
"We have been disappointed with some of our WS purchases. However our recent order restored by confidence! Of the 12 we ordered, 6 were white. Two of the Château Thieuley Blanc, two of The Society's Alvarinho and two of these. They were all good but this Burgundy was the standout wine. Excellent, especially for £9.25 a bottle! We will definitely order more.

"It's ... OK. Not a lot of fruit or zing which you really want with fish. It is better when chilled; but really not a patch on the plethora of Southern Italian whites sold by the WS. I won't be buying again."

"I'm a newbie looking for a benchmark white wine. I think I've found it, a fresh unoaked and beautifully Burgundian chardonnay. Thank you!"
Mr Tom Bulley (21-Feb-2016)
"This is a very typical and perfectly pleasant White Burgundy with shades of Chablis and flint. A great staple to have in your cellar as its a good value quaffing wine which will go well with lighter food. That's why it's a favourite."
Mr Douglas Tonks (05-Dec-2015)
"I found this wine had a lovely mineral edge to it, complementing homemade fish and chips. I can understand the previous review with its Chablis similarities.
I preferred this white burgundy to the previous one a few years back. Will definitely be ordering more."
Mr John Reed (15-Nov-2015)
"I can resonate with both reviews below. I found the ripe/tangy/astringent, almost salty note difficult to get on with. I partnered it with grilled pork with seared onion, garlic, apricot and yellow pepper couscous at it turned out to be the perfect match- by the end of the second glass I had warmed to it. It's obviously high quality wine and lovers are going to love."
Mr Anthony O'Halloran (12-Nov-2015)
"I was interested to read this is the Society's best selling white and was looking forward to trying it. I was disappointed. Too much acidity and lacking fruit., short length. Too astringent altogether, and this was the overall feeling of the 5 friends I tried it with. Maybe bottled too soon? There are better white Macons at lower prices elsewhere. Has the buyer tasted this vintage?"
Mr Simon Ely (10-Oct-2015)
"It's white Burgundy right enough! A tad austere with green apples and a hint of ripeness. It's sort of like a restrained chablis meets an ok Macon. Have it with food, vegetarian, chicken, haddock cod steamed. Not on its own though. Very good value."

2013 VINTAGE - MEMBER REVIEWS
Mr Paul Murdin (11-Aug-2016)
"A decent burgundy, but not worth £9.50. It tastes gently woody, despite the lack of oak and is balanced and reasonably complex - but just a little flat - you want to take another sip, but it just doesn't quite satisfy. Good value at a few pounds less."
Mr Elliot Hepburn-John (22-Mar-2015)
"3 tasting notes from the one tasting by the Furey-Jones family: Mother says: 'Very smooth, soft on the palate, delightful as an aperitif; perfect with salmon, salads and white meats'. Partner says: 'Gluggable; not as nice as it used to be and almost twice the price'. I say: 'As near perfect as you can get for a Macon Villages, very, very nice; our regular house white; a slight pity it is now closer to £10 than £5, but still a winner'."
Ms Heather Jones (17-Aug-2014)
"Heavily chilled, there is enough citrus running through to mistake this for a simple ripe example from the lower slopes of the other end of Burgundy... however for me this wine is most enjoyable lightly chilled when the crisp white peach & apricot flavours shine and those subtle bready buttery notes add to the finish. Everyday un-oaked Burgundy."
Mr Alexander Lomas (09-Jul-2014)
"Really enjoyed this. Citrussy, a little creamy, and very crisp (a little too much on first tasting?). Had hints of woodiness, despite being unoaked. A very pleasantly long finish."
Mr Shashank Cheetham-Joshi (26-Jun-2014)
"I have found it almost impossible to find an enjoyable Burgundy, red or white, for under a tenner. This for me was further proof. It's just about okay but I'd rather spend my money on other wines at this price (or pay a bit more for something I will enjoy)."
Mr Howard Arrowsmith (17-Feb-2014)
"This used to be an excellent buy and we have consumed many bottles over the years. However, the last two deliveries of this have disappointed. Such a shame."
Ms Anne McDonald (06-Feb-2014)
"The very first bottle, from my first order of wine from The Society that I've tasted, and what a surprise. What a fantastic bottle of wine for £8.25 and such a nice experience of French Chardonnay, that I've avoided for years. Went very well with food (Chicken Jerusalem, in a mushroom, artichoke, cream sauce with Orzo) I've added this to my wish list as it might be the go-to bottle for weekday dinners at short notice."
Mr John Dryburgh (18-Jan-2014)
"Pleasant, smooth, fruity, and not at all thin. For the price, sophisticated. Would recommend."
Mr Vaughan Irons (07-Jan-2014)
"Absolutely classic MBV at a fair price, to please the traditionalist palate. For my palate, the Society's Chilean Limari Chardonnay at £1.50 less is a better wine and incredible value."
Mr Charles Stokes (22-Dec-2013)
"Shipments probably vary a bit but I am sorry the last two were disappointed. I suggest they try again. It is a lovely wine for the price, my wife picked it out from other burgundies and she has a better palate then mine. The screw cap is a devilish Wine Society ploy to make it so easy to open that you are tempted to have more!!"
Mr Richard F Lloyd (09-Dec-2013)
"I am with Tom Scrivens on this, I used to take it as my base wine but now the price has increased I buy as good burgundy elsewhere for a little less."
Mr Alistair Barnwell (27-Aug-2013)
"I am sorry to say that this Wine Society classic has gone off the boil a bit in the last 2 vintages. I used to consider this the best house white to drink for any occasion but I think there are better options for the money these days, especially given the recent price increase. This has been a best-seller for years, so maybe its time another decent white takes over now!"
Mr Tom Scrivens (25-Aug-2013)
"Surprisingly good for the price - rich and with a very long finish; quite simple, but very drinkable; a very good day to day white."
Mr Tom King (29-May-2013)
"My first time with this particular wine, an it won't be my last. Delicious on the first nice day of 2013! Initial fruit flavours (some gooseberry in there, maybe straying into apple) are followed by a smooth progression to a creamy finish, with a subtle hint of honey at the end. Highly recommended!"
Mr Stuart Cameron (16-Apr-2013)
"We were anxious to review this wine but there must to be a problem with the bottle size: no sooner had we opened it than it appeared to be finished. This is very appealing wine with a surprisingly long finish. Tremendous value for money, we will be re-ordering.
"
Mr Jim McLaren (09-Apr-2013)
"Believe the hype, this is a lovely balanced wine full of flavour while being extremely easy to drink."
Mr Trevor Smith (03-Apr-2013)
"Wow! An over used expression but justified for this offering and at a very reasonable price too. Lovely balance with good soft fruit, minimum acidity with a long after finish. Great on its own or with the range of food you would expect. Classy and well above average, you can't go wrong with this one! Will be reordering!"
Mr Terence Eastham (21-Mar-2013)
"I have been drinking this wine for quite a few years now and think the current batch is even better than normal - an excellent everyday white Burgundy."

Mr Ian Betts (19-Dec-2012)
"Generally an excellent wine though our last bottle was as described by Mr Small below, quite "linear" and disappointing."
Mr James Paterson (27-Sep-2012)

Mr Philip Merrin (06-Sep-2012)
"This is an excellent wine. Very clean and crisp. I would recommend that you keep at least a few bottles of this in the fridge at all times!
"
Mr Simon Raybould (21-Jul-2012)
"Slightly underwhelmed by this wine. Previous bottles have been a bit richer / rounder whereas this was a bit austere and linear. Will try another bottle to see if there is a difference."
Mr James Small (17-Jun-2012)
"My first purchase. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. The wine was very clean and fresh but I found it short on body and flavour."
Mr Nicholas Tilley (30-May-2012)
"I have done a bit of searching about for comparative burgundy at the price but nothing has come that close without spending over a tenner - amazing value!"
Mr Robin MacNeill (25-May-2012)
"Purchased a case earlier this year and as expected from the 2010 vintage, the wine excelled, even better than previous vintages that have been consistently good. However a recent case is not the same wine and is disappointing after the previous order. This is clearly a different batch of wine, but will check back for the 2011."
Mr Brian Robson (21-Apr-2012)
"A very nice wine for everyday drinking. Great value for money and goes very well fish and white meat. All the family think this is pleasant and at it's best when slightly chilled. Benefits from the bottle being opened a while before drinking."
Mr Nigel A Rich (08-Apr-2012)
"Excellent for the price!!"
Mr Robin Wilson (05-Apr-2012)
"Very reliable. It has never let me down. I'm always pleasantly surprised at how good it is for the price. Perfect with roast chicken. It doesn't knock your socks off the way that top white Burgundy can, but it's a pleasing reminder of that feeling."
Mr Kevin Barry (28-Mar-2012)
"Strawberries and cream! So much better than New World Chardonnay at the same price. My faith in good value Burgundy restored."
Mr Mark Waddington (14-Feb-2012)
"As ever, it really is a matter of personal taste. I can thoroughly recommend this wine for any occasion. About to order my third "helping"."
Mr Paul Brine (24-Jan-2012)
"I tried this recently and have to confess that that I couldn't get excited about this wine. I didn't get anything from it other than it tasted like....white wine. Given the positive reviews elsewhere, perhaps I got a bit of an off bottle."
Ms Katy Benson (06-Jan-2012)
"For simplicity I decided to choose a good value 'house' white that I could put on regular order and know the consistency would be there. We tasted about a dozen different whites and went for this one. Really good wine for the price, with or without food."
Mr Michael Tomlinson (02-Dec-2011)
"Classy Macon Villages. Excellent for the price."
Dr Michael Huggins (20-Jun-2011)
"Excellent value; and in my experience thoroughly reliable. As good a white Burgundy as I have tasted in this price range. No surprise that it's one of the Wine Society's most popular wines."
Mr Brian Woolland (24-May-2011)
"I've tried this twice and have been disappointed on both occasions. I came back to give the ‘highly recommended’ Macon-Village a second chance but it failed again. I found it insipid and lacking any real length or body. Sorry WS I won’t be buying anymore."
Mr Mark Brodie (16-May-2011)
"Two bad bottles in succession: the first a sulphur horror, the second dead, sour and fruitless. I hope that this is just a bottling fault but life is too short so I will return the two cases of this wine. Very disappointing."
Mr Stephen Mahony (09-Mar-2011)
"I'm relatively new to the Society but so far I've never had a poor bottle. I shop at the more modest end and this wine is a recent favourite. A fragrant nose and a balanced taste. A good aftertaste and can be drunk with or without food."
Mr Alan Wells (13-Feb-2011)
"As always, this is a wonderful wine. I know Macon-Villages, and many of the individual Villages themselves, from several happy trips and I would recommend this wine to anyone."
Mr Michael F Davies (09-Apr-2010)
"I was surprised and disappointed find this a thin wine, with little taste and no length. It lacked the minerality I would expect from a Maconnais wine, even at village level. I've been very impressed by the other Society wines I have tried, and your selections in general."
Mr Andy Cowper (23-Mar-2010)
"I have to say I found this a bit disappointing. It seemed rather dilute and lacking in body. I bought it at the offer price and it wasn't a bargain even at that price. Perhaps a bad batch?"
Bernard T Hawcroft Esq (07-Mar-2010)
"Crisp and dry, excellent!"
Dr John W Finch (19-Nov-2009)
"Burgundy is my first choice and this is consistently an excellent drink at a very affordable price for a burgundy."
Mr John R Nash (18-Nov-2009)
"This is the wine I rely on for non plonk parties eg my mother's 90th. Absolutely straight - whats on the label is in the bottle, unoaked (or just the faintest whiff?) chardonnay. Never fails."
Mr Desmond R R Sutcliffe (18-Nov-2009)
"I have bought the Society Burgundy for some time and the latest one maintains the high quality that is offered and expected from the Wine Society. Thoroughly recommended to those who want a reliable and delicious white Burgundy without fuss.
"
Mr J Hurlbatt OBE (18-Nov-2009)
"I am not surprised that this wine is the Society's most popular line. I have bought hundreds of bottles for myself and for my Company and the members always are delighted with it. Delicious fruity unoaked chardonnay - what more to ask? Consistently excellent, year after year. Am I being over-enthusiastic? Perhaps, but it is superb value for money. Well done Toby Morrhall."
Mr Michael G C Gibbs (17-Nov-2009)
"I am very fond of decent Mâcon-Villages and the latest version of the Society's has not disappointed. As the note in the List says, it is full and round, with a crisply flavoursome definite Chardonnay flavour. I find it a perfect pre-dinner drink, especially though not exclusively on a nice Summer evening and it goes well with a fish, seafood or salad starter. It also makes a good party wine of which I think many members would not be ashamed!"
Revd Anthony Birbeck (16-Nov-2009)
"Utterly reliable and remarkable quality for the price. This makes a tremendous "house white" but will also do for more serious occasions if budget dictates."
Mr Peter N Francis (14-Nov-2009)
"Used this wine for many years. I have found it reliable constant. Particularly good with fish but also good with other dishes."
Dr Leslie Rose (14-Nov-2009)
"I have been drinking the Society's White Burgundy for more than 30 years and have never been disappointed in the quality nor the style. There are cheaper versions of White Burgundy but if you are looking for quality and value then the the Society's White Burgundy should always top your list.
"
Mr Michael W K Boddy (13-Nov-2009)
"Good value, dependable and very enjoyable."
Mr Martin Lee (13-Nov-2009)
"There is a good reason why this is the Society's best seller - quite simply it is delicious, multi-functional, consistent and still good value. Why make anything else your 'house white'?
"
Mr Laurence Hunt (13-Nov-2009)
"Always a favourite, but to be frank, I am finding the 2008 rather acidic. Could perhaps do with waiting, but I have always found it best drunk young and fresh. Excellent value."
Mr William D Christopher (12-Nov-2009)
"Consistent high quality. Wine that can be relied upon."
Mr Gregory D Thacker (12-Nov-2009)
"The Society's White Burgundy represents top quality at an affordable price and together with the Society's Beaujolais Villages is consistently good year after year."
Mr John S Clarke (12-Nov-2009)
"A very drinkable, fresh and fruity white Burgundy wine. Great value."
Dr George Taylor (11-Nov-2009)
"If you want a good burgundy at a reasonable price then this fits the bill."
Mr Nigel Hunter (11-Nov-2009)
"Very good everyday wine at a very reasonable price - excellent stuff."
Mr David Payne (11-Nov-2009)
"It's certainly great value for money and an excellent choice for events like Weddings. Personally for one-off consumption, I prefer a slightly richer style - I recently tasted some 07 Macon-Farges from another supplier, which I slightly preferred for that reason, although it was about £2 pbt more expensive. I personally very much dislike the aesthetics of screw-caps, but I appreciate I'm going against the grain on that one - it's actually quite some time since I experienced corked wine bought privately (as opposed to at a restaurant), so may be the cork "technology" is improving"
Mr Peter Faber (11-Nov-2009)
"Crisp, well defined and a good length. Possibly the best Burgundy for the price that I've drunk. Incidentally I think the label is as good as the wine."
Mr Peter Newell (11-Nov-2009)
"A classic Macon Village at a fair price. Represents a constant standard for everyday drinking."
Mr Nicholas Smith (11-Nov-2009)
"I wish people would serve stuff like this at drinks parties."
Mr Joseph Daley (11-Nov-2009)
"It's my favourite Wine Society wine so I always have it in stock. Even family and friends who claim not to like wine enjoy drinking it. Good value for money year after year."
Miss Helen M Foster (11-Nov-2009)
"The Society's White Burgundy is our mainstay white wine drunk year round, but particularly in summer. The quality is consistent and in terms of value for money we believe it unsurpassable. We believe that it is one of the Society's most popular wines and that is not surprising. It goes very well with light meats, poultry and fish, or just to drink on its own. The Society's Red Burgundy is good too - as a pair they take some beating."
Mr J Duncan Cavanagh (12-Oct-2009)
"An excellent value bottle. Very crisp and clean and tasted more expensive. Several friends commented on it, unprompted, during casual drinks."
Mr John Kimmance (25-Aug-2009)
"An excellent and very reliable wine. I almost invariably serve it at lunch parties because I know I can trust it. It is particularly good with food but I also often serve it to drink on its own. Please keep it coming!"
Mr G B Fawcus (15-Aug-2009)
"Top quality and consistent year after year. Fresh, crisp and rounded - it is ideal for both drinking on its own or with food."
Mr Richard E Webb (14-Aug-2009)
"As usual I am much enjoying my latest case of the above. I feel I am in the best of company as our esteemed senior wine buyer chose this wine to celebrate a daughter`s wedding."
Dr Tom McCubbin (11-Aug-2009)
"Disappointing this year (2009). Thinner, sharper, less complex. I shan't be buying it again."
Stephen B C Scott Esq (09-Aug-2009)
"The Society's White Burgundy is excellent value and drinks better than many white burgundies twice or triple the price."
Mr Angus McNeilage (08-Aug-2009)
"An excellent wine at a bargain price. Will certainly be reordering."
Rodney P England Esq (07-Aug-2009)
"I have drunk the Society's White Burgundy for many years and admire the consistency that is, to me, its trademark. An excellent, very drinkable, white Burgundy that is typical of the region."
Mr Andrew Davies (07-Aug-2009)
"I first bought this wine as part of the BUYER'S FAVOURITE WHITES package. Having tasted it and given it a score of 25 out of 30 points [20 points or above suggest reordering] I ordered another case. It is a light, very pleasant drink, but perhaps lacks a definitive character of its own."
Mr Anthony Castell Parker (06-Aug-2009)
"I have ordered this wine for many years and it is always reliable. I'm nuts about white Burgundy (and red!) and the Society's Macon-Villages is great for a cool glass in the garden of a summer evening and in front of a winter fire...anytime, in fact!"
Paul Young Esq (06-Aug-2009)
"It gives me great pleasure to record that I always have a bottle of this wine in the fridge waiting for me on arriving home - it helps that it has a screwcap. It is an excellent wine, at a bargain price. Thank you!"
Ms Sheila Madgwick (06-Aug-2009)
"This is a light, refreshing wine with the characteristic Chardonnay zip. Perfect for sipping outdoors on a warm summer evening, with canapés."
Mr Michael H Leapman (06-Aug-2009)
"Such a reliable purchase; I have never been let down by the Society's Burgundy and if in doubt or in an emergency will always go to my Eurocave where I keep a supply. It's a lovely full drinkable wine which doesn't blow your head off."
Mr Anthony A Elgar (06-Aug-2009)
"The Society's White Burgundy has been a house staple for many years and whilst we try many other wines as our house white we always come back to the Society's White Burgundy. Whether it's fish and chips on a Friday night, a weekend lunch, or just a class of something cool on the patio when I get home, the Society's White Burgundy does it for the Jones's. I was amused to read in one of the Society's reviews earlier this year that one of your buyers used Society's White Burgundy and the Society's Rioja for his son's wedding, well that struck a familiar note with us as we had done exactly the same last September at our son's wedding, except for the Rioja we used the Vina Amezola. Although there was an open bar, most guests drank the red and Society's White Burgundy throughout the evening - a testament to good wine indeed!"
Mr Ashley W Jones (06-Aug-2009)
"An excellent wine, crisp, smooth and always tempting. Very good value for money and constantly popular with my family!"
Capt C W Pile RN(RTD) (05-Aug-2009)
"The Society's White Burgundy is, and has been, our staple white wine choice for some years. We have tried various alternatives but inevitably return."
Mr William M Waterfall (05-Aug-2009)
"This has been our favourite white wine for many years. It is very consistent and is one of the most delicate tasting. When the price increased this year we tasted many other wines to replace it as our everyday drink but none have yet matched the Society's White Burgundy."
Mr Eric Bolam (05-Aug-2009)
"Still my favourite dry white wine which we buy for both our houses in France and England. Some variations between cases - some flinty dry - some buttery dry (which I prefer). It's now just getting a little too expensive for everyday drinking and we are looking at more reasonable wines for our daily aperitif."
Mr Stuart Ninian (05-Aug-2009)
"I bought the Society's White Burgundy for a reception held on a warm summer's night and found it dry and refreshing with good weight. It is an excellent all-round wine as I would also serve it with light summer food. I regard it as good value.
"
Mr Anthony Arfwedson (05-Aug-2009)
"A very dependable white with body and flavour, drinkable with quite a wide range of food or on its own."
John R H Richards Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"This seems a particularly good vintage. As always, it benefits from decanting a few hours before drinking: I pour the bottle into a jug, and then back into the bottle. The consequent exposure to air definitely rounds out the taste."
Mr Roger Mottram (05-Aug-2009)
"Good value, reliable quality, delicious round but dry flavour and helpfully very little oak, we like its dependability as a good every day drinking wine. In what seems to be an increasingly competitive level of sub £10.00, it still outclasses most other similarly priced 'house white' burgundies."
Arundel McDougall Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"I always have this wine in my cellar. Delicious and good value for money."
Mr James G Green (05-Aug-2009)
"Disappointing, not up to the usual standard in my view.
Note from The Wine Society:
We want all wine purchased from The Society to be enjoyable. If it is not, then we would like to hear about it, and would encourage members to contact Member Services on 01438 741177."
Mr Simon Fosh (05-Aug-2009)
"We have been consistently pleased with both the quality of the wine and it's value for money."
Mark C W Bateman Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"Consistently good wine and very good value for money. There is always a bottle or two in my place."
Mr Michael Smith (05-Aug-2009)

"A fresh but supple
and well-rounded Chardonnay - Joanna Simon"
The Wine Gang (Mar 2013)
"The Society's French-wine drinking members may be fairly traditional in their tastes but that doesn't stop The Society applying screwcaps when it thinks the wine will benefit. In this unoaked, creamy-textured Chardonnay, a screwcap preserves the lively lemon and melon flavours and fresh acidity. Blended by the Society's buyer Marcel Orford-Williams and a local French oenologist. Goes with: Fish & Seafood, Chicken, Charcuterie and cold meats."
East Yorkshire Journal (1st Feb 2013)
"My five-star, 10/10 wine comes from The Wine Society. Their simply named White Burgundy ticks all the right boxes with its delicious creamyt fresh style. It's almost too easy to drink but still manages to hold on to a crisp, sophisticated finish that's almost unbeatable with its £7.50 a bottle price tag. Purists might quibble with the name as, in essence, it's really a Macon Blanc Villages, but who cares when it's as good as this- Phil Parish"
