"I bought a bottle of this after a gap of some years. I was looking forward to tasting it as the Society said it had improved in leaps and bounds, however I was disappointed to say the least. It used to be fresh and lively; elegant, "racy" and typical of a well made white Burgundy, but this was more like a new world Chardonnay and not a very good one at that. Maybe I had a bad bottle but think this unlikely with a screw cap closure."

"We are White Burgundy fans. We bought a few half bottles of this for a Christmas zoom tasting. Previous vintages have been fabulous, and more recently decent examples of entry level Burgundy. This started off with a hint of banana on the nose. This then gave way to very little of any note. All our tasters were underwhelmed by this wine, both seasoned White Burgundy drinkers and first time tasters. Nobody liked it. The mouth was good, with decent texture and fattiness, but the fruit was dead, and as with other reviewers the finish left a tartness which was out of kilter with the rest of the wine. Burgundy has been a real victim of 'shrinkflation' over the years as the wines get more and more expensive and own-label versions like this suffer. I suggest it might be worth re-assessing and picking a new Society blend at a higher price point to be indicative of what White Burgundy should be about. This is not it. "

"Look. If a white Burgundy is where you go for a reliable, "this will work!" sort of a wine, this is every bit as good an example as you could wish for. If you're not a white Burgundy fan, then maybe you won't get on with it. I happen to like the fact it's not knock-you-over-oaked, and that you can drink it on its own or with a weekday sort of meal. If it were a pop star, it would be the Lighthouse Family, or the Blue Nile. That's not to damn it with faint praise - you know what you're going to get, you get it, you enjoy it! Everyone's happy. You won't upset the mother-in-law, but you're not going to surprise your friends with your latest discovery either. I'm hesitating to use the word "safe" because that would suggest "boring", which I don't think this wine is at all. Solid, reliable, "does what it says on the tin". You know you're home now. Just enjoy it. "

Having tried the 2018 and finding it agreeable within its price range, I felt confident that the 2019 would be along the same lines. However it has an acidic, edgy finish and not enough ripeness on mid palate. Maybe it will improve over time but I wouldn’t count on it."

"The label claims 'delicacy', but it was too delicate for me and 'purity of fruit' seems like estate agent speak for 'no great depth of flavour'. In fact I don't think I would have recognised this as Burgundy if I'd tasted it blind - it just doesn't have many of those feel-good features that warm the cockles of your heart and make you smile when you recognise an old friend.
